| Lake Merritt in a Better Day |
|
We had just re-done a bathroom, but there was a wall that needed something. I thought
an original painting might work; we called Karen for help.Karen had never painted a wall before but, undaunted, she ventured
forth to re-create a painting she had done of Lake Merritt. The original painting did not
quite fill the whole wall, so Karen ventured out to take many pictures of the lake and local wildlife. The
wall then seemed to fill itself out. When you walk into the room, Karen’s work, works. It is
exactly the right height, the perspective is great, and the colours are vivid. The
peaceful lake and cute animals mirror the peace and serenity Karen brings with all her work. Dick and Linda Burnett

"I am looking to commission a watercolor painting of Lake Merritt/Grand Lake area. ... I think the colors and the energy
of your painting are fantastic. ... ... your paintings are so gorgeous that I would love to find out if you are interested/available.
... I'd love to give the watercolor to my wife as a holiday gift to remember our old neighborhood." Randy Heyman

"Burney Falls" , a favorite vacation spot. This landscape is done with traditional Asian landscape techniques, though
a California subject. "Bones" of black ink rock formations provide support for amazing strands of water cascading into the
pool.

"We had re-painted the interior of our house and needed a bold painting
to complement the strong colors and definitive furnishings in the dining room. Karen had us choose some of our personal items to include in the
painting, including the black cats, brass bowl,
Faberge egg and china that belonged to Peter's grandmother. The personal touch was key to making the painting such an important part of our home. This painting has been a "real hit" with family
and friends, and we love it too. "

Viewing the wall from my dentists "chair", I envisioned this painting. It is a take-off on a 17th century handscroll
by a female artist, Cai Han. Scolarly descriptions of well painted pines from "View from Jade Terrace, Chinese Women
artists 1300 to 1910" - "coiling as if roiled, eccentric and fantastical... undulating and sinuous"
"This painting of trees is a 'life-changing"' painting for me." Dr. Michael Scollard

If you have a theme or certain colors or just a place to place a painting - in mind- Karen is delighted to work with
you to create a painting that will enlighten, enrich and enliven your space. She is also happy to consider the feng shui of
the place and its affect on your life.
"...so interesting to look at the natural world, in your paintings, and have it be an image that takes you out of this
world...) comment by an exhibit visitor.
Edith and I are both drawn to your work because it combines technical
control with flair and fluidity, the true vision and freedom of expression that comes with mastery of technique and working
within traditions -- I should say making well-phrased dialogues with traditions, and also with your viewers or "audience."
Your paintings are true poetry. A real poem draws one in, not only spiritually but also actively as one reads it out
loud (or imagines reading it out loud); true works of fine art or music act in a similar way, drawing in the viewer or listener
as a mentally and spiritually active participant. Thank you for drawing us into something wonderful!
